Thank you to my “totally awesome” daughter, Hannah, for
suggesting that you visit my new blog.
It is true that she had to convince me to do this, and it is true that
she is totally awesome. What can I say, she takes after me!
Since Hannah mentioned that I would be sharing from my life,
and stories of how I have gotten this far (wherever that is), I will tell you
about some special times in my life, who encouraged me, and how they prepared
me for some of the shoes I would wear.

Yes, I was a Girl Scout.
No, I did not wear this kind of shoes.
In fact, I didn’t know official Girl Scout Shoes existed until I googled
it and found these ads. But I thought
they were neat. Wouldn’t you love to buy
ANY well-made shoes for this price now!
In 1962 when I was in the second grade, the school sent home
information about joining the “Brownies”, which was the youngest division of
the Girl Scouts. My mother signed me
up. I didn’t know until much later that
my mother had also been a Girl Scout. In
fact, the Birmingham News had done a feature story on her mother (my
grandmother) and her daughters. The
oldest daughter, my Aunt Louise was her assistant leader, and her other
daughters, Florence, Irene, Ruth, Bertie (my mother), and Doris were all in
Girl Scouts. Their picture was in the
paper, and I have it somewhere around here.
(When I find it and I figure out how to scan it in and post it, you will
get to see it).
1949,
probably about the time of the story of my grandmother, mother and
aunts.
I was only in Brownies a short time, and I don’t remember
much about it, except the “Brownie Smile” song, and the fact that we had
refreshments. I think we lost the
leaders and nobody else would take it on.
But through some various circumstances, I ended up at a different school
in the last few months of the 6th grade, and my cousin was in a Girl
Scout Troop there. My Aunt Louise
suggested I go to the meeting, and, even though I went to the wrong room the
first time, I finally found the meeting, and joined a group of girls under a
Girl Scout Leader I will never forget.
Next time: Scooter, Sidney, and Girl Scout of the
Year………………….…………
