" An evil little game lurks on my computer and calls to me when I'm at my
most vulnerable. I'm sure you're familiar with it. Yes, that innocent
looking card game is out to suck away your precious time. Avert your
eyes and click at your own peril! I know. I've been there."
I was sitting with my computer in my lap watching the Braves lose to the Nationals, and, yes, playing solitaire, and I teased with my husband that I thought I might need to join "Solitaire Anonymous". Then I googled it...........yes, I found links. The first one was the blog quoted above, and was a humorous, but very pointed reality of what someone who plays solitaire can be tempted with. Then I went to another website. I began reading the information as listed below:
Symptoms
of Solitaire Addiction
Signs of an addiction to solitaire
are similar to those associated with computer addiction.
Warning signs to look for include:
- Getting a "rush" when playing the game
- Feeling guilty about playing the game, even as you continue to play
- Not being able to control the amount of time you spend playing solitaire
- Lying about the amount of time you spend playing and thinking about the game
- Becoming upset when someone or something in real life interrupts your game playing time
- Playing solitaire when you are sad or upset to avoid dealing with your feelings
In addition to the symptoms named
above, physical warning signs can also be evident:
- Carpal tunnel syndrome
- Reoccurring head and backaches
- Dry eyes
- Trouble staying on a regular eating schedule
- Neglect of personal hygiene
This was not a humorous spoof as the first one was, but a serious addition website with 12 Steps for Recovery and everything.
Well, I guess there are worse things to be addicted to. I refuse to go to the link for "computer addiction" for now, but next time I have my computer in my lap and can't think of anything to do with it, I might check it out. That's all I have to say about that.
No more time right now for blogging, I have a saved game to get back to................
